Airport Lounge Access in 2026: Every Route In, and the Guest Rules That Changed

How do you get into an airport lounge?

There are four routes, and they are not equally good for everyone:

If you fly twice a year, a day pass at the door beats an $895 annual fee by a wide margin. The card route only pays for itself with frequency.

The guest rules changed in 2026, and this is now the main reason people get turned away

If you chose your card partly because it let you bring your family in, check it again before you fly. Three issuers cut guest benefits inside eight weeks:

• 15 January 2026 — The Ritz-Carlton Credit Card now caps complimentary guests at two per visit at Chase Sapphire Lounges and Priority Pass lounges. Additional guests cost $27 each.
• 1 February 2026 — Capital One Venture X removed automatic complimentary guest access at Capital One Lounges. Cardholders who spend $75,000 on the account in a calendar year can bring up to two complimentary guests to Capital One Lounges and one to Capital One Landings. Priority Pass guests cost $35 each per visit for all cardholders.
• 8 July 2026 — Amex Centurion Lounges require guests to be on the same flight as the cardholder. During a layover, access is limited to within five hours of the connecting flight. The complimentary guest allowance for personal Platinum cards drops from two to one.

Lounges are crowded, and issuers are managing that by making guests harder to bring. If your card benefits guide is more than a year old, it is wrong.

Which cards still get guests in?

Chase Sapphire Reserve remains one of the most straightforward options for travelling with a partner: two complimentary guests at every Priority Pass visit, with $27 per additional guest.

Priority Pass on its own

You can buy Priority Pass directly without any card. Three tiers:

• Standard — $99/year, then $35 per visit for you and each guest
• Standard Plus — $329/year, 10 free visits, then $35 per visit
• Prestige — $469/year, unlimited visits for you, $35 per guest

Guests cost $35 a visit at every single tier, including the $469 top tier. If you always travel with a partner, that is $70 per round trip in guest fees on top of the membership.

Does your card actually work at THIS airport?

"Priority Pass access" is not a single thing. It is access to a network of specific lounges, and the lounges in that network vary by terminal. A card that gets you into a lounge in Terminal 3 gets you nothing in Terminal 1 if there is no participating lounge there. Some lounges cap entry when they hit capacity regardless of what your card says.

The real question is never "does my card have lounge access." It is "does my card open a specific lounge, in the specific terminal I am departing from, on this specific day." No card marketing page answers that.

Can you pay at the door?

Many lounges sell walk-up day passes. If you fly rarely, that is often the right answer — a day pass twice a year against $395–$895 for a card you are not otherwise using. Buy the card for the flying you actually do, not the flying you imagine doing.
