Terminal 1 Minneapolis MN: Airlines, TSA Checkpoints, and Getting Around MSP

Terminal 1 Minneapolis MN is the building most connecting and Delta-hub passengers actually use at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP). It sits on a different roadway from Terminal 2, so the airline on your boarding pass decides which curb you need — not which city you are visiting.

Where is Terminal 1 Minneapolis MN?

MSP Airport lists Terminal 1 at 4300 Glumack Drive, St. Paul, MN 55111, phone 612-726-5555. Terminal 2 is at 7150 Humphrey Drive, Minneapolis, MN 55450. The two terminals are reached from separate roadways. If a driver follows the wrong terminal signs, you cannot walk across landside without a transfer.

Check-in, bags, and the TSA checkpoint

Once you are at Terminal 1, MSP Airport puts check-in and bag check in the Ticketing Lobby on Level 2, off the upper roadway, one level above baggage claim. After you have a boarding pass, you go through TSA screening on that same ticketing level.

Terminal 1 has TSA-operated North and South checkpoints on the Ticketing level for all passengers; MSP says one checkpoint is open 24 hours a day. The Skyway Security Checkpoint on the Concourse C/G connector bridge is temporarily closed (the automated exit there remains open 24 hours a day, seven days a week). Checkpoint #7 on Concourse G is for international connecting travelers only.

MSP Airport asks you to arrive two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international travel, so you can check bags, clear screening, and reach the gate. TSA PreCheck lanes are at open checkpoints when they are operating. CLEAR kiosks are at both the North and South checkpoints. MSP RESERVE is an optional, free time-slot program for the TSA line — it is not a paid membership, and it does not replace ID rules.

TSA REAL ID enforcement began May 7, 2025. A U.S. passport remains an acceptable ID. Travelers without an acceptable form of ID must pay a $45 TSA ConfirmID fee; verification is not guaranteed. Carry-on liquids still follow TSA 3-1-1: a quart-sized bag of liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes, in containers of 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less per item. International arrivals at Terminal 1

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) processes arriving international passengers. MSP Airport states that all checked baggage must be claimed in this facility regardless of your final destination — there is no sterile international transit in the U.S. sense. At Terminal 1, the Global Entry interview area is near baggage carousel #11 on the baggage claim level. After CBP you re-clear TSA for a connecting flight. Build that into your connection, then follow airport customs and immigration.

Getting between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2

MSP Airport provides free Light Rail Transit (LRT) between the terminals. The METRO Blue Line stops at both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Travel between the airport stations is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and no ticket is needed for that inter-terminal hop.

The Terminal 1 METRO Blue Line station is below the Red, Blue and Silver parking ramps. From the Tram Level (one level below bag claim), take the tram toward those ramps and follow signs to the station. MSP’s flights page says trains between terminals run approximately every 10 minutes during peak times and 10 to 15 minutes at other times of day; between 11 p.m. and 4:30 a.m., passengers can use the Metro Blue Line airport shuttle. From the airport, MSP says trains can take you to Mall of America in about 12 minutes and to the Warehouse District in downtown Minneapolis in about 25 minutes.

A complimentary inter-terminal shuttle is available as an alternative to light rail for passengers with mobility challenges or special needs.
