MSP Airport Map Terminal 1: Levels, Gates and Security

The MSP airport map for Terminal 1 works best as a level-by-level route. Departing passengers start at the Ticketing Lobby on Level 2, clear the North or South security checkpoint, and follow signs to concourses A–G. Arriving passengers follow signs to Baggage Claim below ticketing. The Tram Level below Baggage Claim leads toward parking, ground transportation and the light rail station.

How to read the MSP Terminal 1 map

1. Confirm Terminal 1 first. MSP Airport says its two terminals use separate roadways. Check the terminal shown by your airline before following airport road signs.
2. Choose the correct level. Go to the Level 2 Ticketing Lobby for check-in or bag drop. For an arriving bag, follow signs to Baggage Claim below it.
3. Find security. Terminal 1 passengers may use the North or South checkpoint on the Ticketing Level. Travelers with an MSP RESERVE appointment should use the North Checkpoint.
4. Read the gate in two parts. The letter identifies one of concourses A–G, while the gate shown on your boarding pass identifies where to go within that concourse.
5. Treat Terminal 2 as a transfer. It is not another Terminal 1 concourse. Follow signs down toward the Tram Level and light rail.

Terminal 1 levels explained

Level 2: ticketing, bag check and security

MSP Airport places check-in and bag-check services in the Terminal 1 Ticketing Lobby on Level 2, off the upper roadway. This level is one level above Baggage Claim. The North and South checkpoints are also on the Ticketing Level.

MSP Airport says Terminal 1 passengers may use either checkpoint, while MSP RESERVE is available only at the North Checkpoint. Checkpoint conditions can change rapidly, so check the airport's official security page and follow the signs operating when you arrive.

Beyond security: concourses A–G

MSP Airport lists concourses A, B, C, D, E, F and G for Terminal 1. The terminal map shows how those concourses connect; it does not fix a flight to a permanent gate. After screening, follow the letter on your boarding pass and confirm the gate on an airport display.

For a Terminal 1 connection that remains inside security, follow signs toward the next concourse. Ask the airline whether checked baggage will transfer on your itinerary instead of using the terminal map to make that assumption.

Baggage Claim and the Tram Level

Baggage Claim is one level below the Level 2 Ticketing Lobby. Arriving travelers should use the flight displays to identify the correct carousel. If meeting another traveler, choose a specific baggage-claim location rather than only saying “Terminal 1.”

MSP Airport places the Tram Level one level below Baggage Claim. From there, take the tram toward the Red and Blue parking ramps, exit, and follow signs to the light rail station. This is also the route used for a transfer to Terminal 2.

Terminal 1 versus Terminal 2

MSP Airport has two terminals reached from separate roadways. Confirm the terminal before driving to the airport; Terminal 2 is not a branch of the Terminal 1 concourse map.

Light rail trains stop at both terminals. MSP Airport says there is no charge for rail service between them. Check the airport's current directions and posted station signs before traveling because transit operations can change.

Security and carry-on preparation

TSA sets the checkpoint rules used at MSP. Under the TSA liquids rule, carry-on liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes must be in a quart-sized bag, and each container is limited to 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less. A container that alarms can require additional screening.
