MSP is easier to navigate once you treat it as two separate airport buildings, not one continuous terminal. The Metropolitan Airports Commission, which operates MSP, says the terminals have separate road approaches. Start with the terminal printed in your airline information, then use the matching map.

Terminal 1 map: concourses A through G

Terminal 1 is the larger-looking branch on the airport terminal map because it contains concourses A through G. MSP lists Aer Lingus, Air Canada, Air France, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Denver Air, Discover, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa, United Airlines and WestJet at this terminal.

For departure, go to the Ticketing Lobby on Level 2 for check-in and bag drop. The North and South TSA checkpoints are on that same ticketing level. MSP says passengers can use either checkpoint; MSP RESERVE is available only at the North Checkpoint. Check live airport information before choosing a line because checkpoint operations can change.

Terminal 2 map: Concourse H

Terminal 2 contains Concourse H. MSP currently assigns Frontier, Icelandair, Southwest and Sun Country to this terminal. Ticketing, boarding-pass service and bag check are in the Level 1 Ticketing Lobby. Security is on Level 2, with checkpoints near the Orange Parking Ramp skyway and Purple Ramp skyway.

Do not navigate to Terminal 1 just because both buildings share the MSP airport code. Confirm the terminal with the airport or airline before leaving, especially because the airport currently warns that construction near Terminal 2 can increase roadway congestion during busy periods.

How to use the MSP airport map

1. Confirm the terminal. Match your airline to Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 before choosing driving, parking or drop-off directions.
2. Find the departure level. Use Level 2 for Terminal 1 check-in and Level 1 for Terminal 2 check-in.
3. Locate security. Terminal 1 uses North and South checkpoints on the Ticketing level; Terminal 2 security is on Level 2.
4. Find the concourse. Follow signs for concourses A through G in Terminal 1 or Concourse H in Terminal 2.
5. Recheck the gate. Airport layouts orient you, but your airline's current gate information determines where you board.

Getting between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2

The airport's official ground-transportation guidance says the light rail transit service between the terminals is free. It operates around the clock, every day, at approximately 15-minute intervals. Follow airport signs to the light rail rather than trying to walk between the separate terminal roadways.

MSP also directs passengers with special needs to its inter-terminal shuttle information. If accessibility affects your route, confirm the current pickup instructions with the airport before flying.

Ground transportation points on the map

Rideshare pickup is different in each terminal. At Terminal 1, go to the Ground Transportation Center on Level 1 of the Green/Gold Parking Ramps. At Terminal 2, pickup is on the second level of the Purple parking ramp. These locations matter when arranging a pickup because a driver waiting at the other terminal is not at the same curb.

Security and ID reminders

MSP recommends arriving two hours before a domestic flight and three hours before international travel, allowing time for bags, TSA screening and the walk to the gate. TSA says travelers flying domestically need a REAL ID or another acceptable form of identification. Rules, checkpoint access and airline assignments can change, so confirm details on the official MSP and TSA pages before flying.
